About EG Builds

We build one car at a time in our garage, share the work on Facebook, then give it away.

It started with a $250 Toyota

I barely scraped together the $250 to buy my first truck. Pretty sure my dad loaned me most of that! It was a 1979 Toyota pickup I bought from my grandpa. Blue, rusted out, and about half the bed was missing. She was ROUGH!

But man, I loved that truck. I washed it every single week like it was brand new. Was it embarrassing to drive to high school, maybe a little but it was no secret I didn't come from money.

That truck meant freedom. It meant I could get to work, make my own money, and start building a life for myself. It wasn't much to look at, but it meant the world to me.

Fast forward a whole bunch of years, a few businesses built and sold, and here I am. Back doing what I've always loved. Playing with cars and trucks! Taking something ordinary and turning it into something awesome.

But here's the coolest part. Now I get to use that passion to do something bigger than just build cool cars. Through EG Builds, we get to build dream cars, have a blast doing it, and use that to help put deserving young people behind the wheel of their very first car.

Because I still remember what that beat-up $250 Toyota meant to me. And I'd love to give someone else that same feeling.

The nonprofit

Eden's Garage, Inc. is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit that Shawn also started. It gets dependable cars to young people who need one: it buys a clean used car, makes it road-ready, and hands over the keys.

How a build works

  1. Pick the vehicle

    Something ordinary with good bones.

  2. Build it

In our garage, with parts our build partners donate.

  3. Document it

We share the build on Facebook as it happens, in photos and short videos.

  4. Give it away

Realtime Media, an independent administrator, runs the giveaway and draws the winner.

  5. Do it again

    Then the next build starts.

  • A mechanic beside Peanut Butter in the shop, its front end stripped down
  • A new drilled brake rotor and coil spring going on the front suspension
  • Peanut Butter from the rear corner with the bed still off, a wide bronze wheel beside the bare frame
  • Peanut Butter, the tan and brown 1988 Chevy C1500, with its bed and black front bumper fitted and a removed bumper on the workshop floor

Our build partners
